SORI YANAGI (柳宗理）

 

(柳宗理 1915–2011) was a Japanese product designer. He played a role in Japanese modern design developed after World War 2 to the high-growth period in the Japanese economy. He is both a representative of the wholly Japanese modern designer and a full-blown modernist who merged simplicity and practicality with elements of traditional Japanese crafts.

I simply love SORI YANAGI.

His beautiful master pieces yet, utilitarian makes more fascinating as perfect products. Yes, they are not art pieces, they are products. He designed precisely for daily uses.

I simply love the idea of using the art-products for the simple purposes such as cooking and eating.

SORI YANAGI may be well known for his designs for the butterfly stool and the elephant stool in 1954, but I simply love his cookwares and cutlers.

最近、柳宗理さんのプロダクトにはまっています。日本に居る方にとっては、今更？と思うかも知れませんが、ここ10年ほど利用していて、益々柳宗理さんのデザイン性に惚れ込んでしまっています。

柳宗理さんの料理道具、食卓用金物は、使い易さを追求していくことで、美しさに辿り着いているのでしょう。だから各道具は、1つ以上のデザインが存在しません。それ以上のデザインはないと言う事です。

美しいプロダクトという存在は、人を幸せにしてくれます。日々使って楽しめるって最高です。
