先週、ロンドン滞在中に、ふと見たHarper's Bazaar UKに、90年代前半に活躍した、Super model5人が揃ってカバーに載っていた。その下に、duran duran??　余計興味津々。何たって、私はロンドンロックで育ったジェネレーションですから。。。
中を見てみると、duran duran新曲のプロモーションの記事。ずーと読み続けると、曲名は"Girl Panic!"で、プロモーションビデオがリリースとあるではありませんか。早速YouTube.
やばいです。このサウンド。ちょー80's british rock.

またまたキャストが、先述したsuper model、全員が登場します。

監督には、レディー・ガガのPVも手掛けた、ジョナス・アカーランドさん。凄すぎるこの発想。

よーく見ると、著名なデザイナーも出ていますよ。

Late Autumn

We went to the central park on weekend and did a picnic. My wife made a beautiful chirashi sushi, Japanese omelette, sausage, sauted string beans, umeboshi, beef etc. I should have taken picutres instead of explaining to you verbally.

The weather was perfect and enjoyed so much been in a park where we used to go everyday when we lived in upper west.

Central park is the oasis of New York City and it is my most favorite place in a city.

Many leaves has strated falling down and this weekend probably will be the last weekend of been able to see the fall leaves.

今週末、久し振りにセントラルパークに行った。せっかくだから、ピクニックの用意をして出掛けた。

天候は、青空一色の快晴。ワイフが用意してくれた、最高なランチを食べながら、紅葉している葉を見ながらの食事は、至福の一時である。

ニューヨークに来てからの、最初の6年程は、アッパーウエストに住んでいた。その時は、朝のジョギングか、夕食後の散歩などで、ほぼ毎日パークに出向いた。

セントラルパークは、マンハッタンのオアシス。

紅葉している葉も、そろそろ落ちる頃かな？

来週辺りには、はげはげパークになると思う。

いよいよホリデーシーズンだ！！

Best Steakhouse

There are so many steakhouses in New York City and yes, Peter Luger in Brooklyn is a well known one. I love sushi, seafood and everything, but I really love steak!! especially the American beef, not Kobe or Shimofuri beef from Japan, Red meat, yes!! I love red meat because I can eat more. If they are Japanese beef, they are too faty to eat a lot.

Last weekend, my brother in law was in town and I wanted to take him to really classic American steakhouse, yes Keens Steakhouse!! My all time steak place in America!

This place has opened its door since 1885 and oldest in NYC and their aged prime porterhouse is simply awesome. I forgot to take pictures of them this time, I was so hungry, sorry.....

I will explain the history of this place via different time. I just wanted to mention it this time.

You must go Keens if you only have visited Peter Luger.

先週末、日本から義理の弟がニューヨークに来ていた。海外生活が長ーい彼だが、全てヨーロッパである。

ニューヨークにも数回来ているが、今回は彼一人での旅である。

そこで僕としては、目茶苦茶アメリカンな所に連れて行こうと決めていました。やはり、ステーキになりますよね？！
ニューヨークには、無数のステーキハウスが散在します。有名なところでは、Peter Luger, Smith & Wollensky, Palm, Nickerbockerなどがありますよね。その中でも、Peter Lugerは、とても人気なステーキハウスです。

日本の霜降りビーフより、アメリカのレッドミートの方が、僕は断然好きです。何しろ、美味しく量を食べれるからです。何もつけずに、美味しく食べれるのが、アメリカンビーフです。

今まで、色々とアメリカのステーキハウスに行きました。それぞれの都市にある有名な老舗ステーキハウスにも多く足を運びました。どこも、美味しいです。ただ僕の中では、ベリーベストなステーキハウスが、ニューヨークにあります。その名も、Keens Steakhouse.

Keens Steakhouseは、1885年から続いているニューヨークでは、最も古いステーキハウスなのです。

ここのAged Prime Porterhouse,(この写真は、余りおいしそうでないが。。）は、最高！！

何もつけずに食べ始め、少し飽きたらマスタード、西洋わさび、岩塩などをつけると、ずーっと食べ続けられる程の、美味しさ。サイドディッシュに、ポテトフライ、クリーミーほうれん草、さやえんどうの炒めが並べば、もう完璧です。是非！！！

Piano Recital- Nobuyuki Tsujii

I was very fortunate to witness the great piano recital at Carnegie Hall in New York City last week.
The pianist, Mr.Nobuyuki Tsujii who won the first prize at the thirteenth Van Cliburn International piano competition in 2009. He has graduated from Ueno Gakuen University of music in Japan and my wife and I were kindly invited by them for this recital. Thank you Yoshi!!

I have never had a chance to see the piano recital before and I am not having a through knowledge of it, but Nobuyuki's tone was so beautiful and emotional. He played the following programs.

先週、上野学園さんのお招きで、２００９年のヴァン・クライバーン国際ピアノコンクールで優勝された、辻井信行さんのピアノリサイタルにお伺いした。独奏会は、クラシック音楽の殿堂カーネギーホールで開催された。私は、ピアノに関する知識は、全くといっていいほど無いが、彼の演奏を聴きながら、涙が出るほどの感激、感動を体験した。残念ながら、その音色をここで表現する事は難しいが、優しさの中に、強いものが存在するといった、とても心を打たれた自分がホールにいた。

辻井さんが、演奏に臨んだのは”鍵盤の達人２”と銘打たれたピアノリサイタルのシリーズ。曲目は、ベートーベンのソナタ”テンペスト”やリストの曲などであった。

Patricia Curtan

If you know about the Chez Panisse in Berkeley, CA, you must love to eat well. This resturant on west coast is known and credited as the inspiration for the style of cooking known as California cuisine. I have never visited yet, but it is one of my must go places to taste the organic foods which have been serving since 1971.

Today, at my favorite store in NYC, PROJECT NO.8 at Ace Hotel hosted the refined tastes event that is featuring the Ms. Patricia Curtan who is an artist that has designed the resturant menus since begenning.

She is a linoleum block prints artist and she has done many prints work for menus and illustrating Alice Waters's Chez Panisse vegetables and fruits.

She has released her new book and shows her many works and explains the process of her work. It is a beautiful book and I am looking forward to read through them soon.

私の大好きなショップ、PROJECT NO.8 at Ace Hotelで、ブックリリースパーティーが行われた。バークレー、カリフォルニアに所在する、カリフォルニア・クイジーンを世に広めたChez Panisseレストランの、メニューや、野菜、フルーツなどのデザインをしているPatricia Curtanの新本だ。

Chez Panisseは、1971年オープン以来、オーガニック野菜、フルーツを中心とした、カリフォルニアクイジーンの元祖といわれている。そこのキッチンで働きながら、レストランメニュー、スペシャルゲスト用のメニューなどを和紙のような紙にプリントをし、レストラン独自の世界観を創り上げた立役者の一人となった、Patricia Curtan. 彼女の作品は,日本の版画に通ずるものがあり、見ていて何かホッとする。レストランのメニューが、彼女のプリントワークというだけで、レストランにむしょうに行きたい。元祖カリフォルニア・クイジーン旅行を、Project No.8のBrianと、Elizabethと企画しようかな？

Who would thought of this as wrist band....only from London.

I am still suffering from the jet lags, but time does not allow us stop working.

Today, I was invited from the BRITISH FASHION COUNCIL for their S/S12' collection produced by London Showroom at SOHO GRAND HOTEL in New York.

It is their second time showing in NEW YORK and this time, they brought 20 upcoming designers from there.

Thanks to Nana Suzuki (buyer relations) who walked and explained little details of each collection for me helped understanding the current flows of British fashion.

They were fun, bright, pop and hip like back in late 80's per se when we realized that most of music we listened were from London. Yet, the collections are new and updated which are very refreshing to me. I feel we will start seeing US retailers to carry British fashions soon and in Tokyo eventually.

昨日は、BRITISH FASHION COUNCILのお招きで、素晴らしい展示会に行ってきました。最近、気になります、このBritish fashion。余りにも気になって、今月末にロンドンに行くことにしました。

最近のアメリカに無いものが全部あるというか、面白いんじゃない？と思ったら、作ってしまうという大胆さが感じます。と同時に、完璧でない不十分さ加減が、一層興味をそそります。ひと昔は、この不十分さが、アメリカっぽいことでしたが、今は、イギリス人が、この遊び心をしっかりと持っている気がします。ニューヨーク、東京のお店でも、British fashionをもっと目にする日が近い予感。

今回の展示会で、個々の写真は余り撮れませんでしたが、上記のexhibitor listで気になるネームが有ったら、web siteをチェックしてみてください。

INTERVIEW

I just came back from very warm/hot Tokyo and finally I will get to saty in town for while!! I do not mind going to Tokyo, but not too often like twice in a month pace.

My first job since came back was the intervew with awesome Japanese architectural/life style magazine call Casa Brutus for Todd Snyder.

They will be featuring the popular designer's "TRAVEL" style and showing some private items.

If you are interetsed in Todd Snyder, you should see the December issue of Casa Brutus.

昨夜、日本出張より戻りました。東京でお世話になった方々、色々と有難うございました。それにしても、東京は暑かった。。。。でもこれから、一気に気温が下がりそうなので、皆さん体調にはご留意ください。

さて、時差ぼけバリバリで、ほっぺを叩きながら戻ってからの初仕事は、カーサ・ブルータスとのTodd Snyderインタビュー。私もこの雑誌は、大好きです。少し昔は、結構建築色の強い雑誌のイメージがありましたが、最近はライフスタイル面も充実し、もっと好きになっています。

今回は、”トラベル”をテーマとした、人気デザイナーのパーソナルなトラベルグッズの紹介という設定。Toddは、体格の割には細々した物が大好き。Todd Snyderのことをもっと知りたい方、是非１２月号のカーサ・ブルータスを手にとってください。
